Commentary
And He is the One who takes you at night. The address is to the disbelievers, meaning you are lying down. Night is like corpses. And He knows what you have earned during the day, what sins you have committed in it. Then He will raise you in it. Then He will raise you from the graves regarding that which you have spent your lives on, from sleeping at night and earning sins during the day, and for it, as in your saying: 'For what have you called me?' You say: 'For such and such a matter.' So that a specified term may be fulfilled, which is the term He has named and set for the resurrection of the dead and their recompense for their deeds. Then to Him is your return, which is the return to the Day of Judgment. Then He will inform you of what you used to do in your nights and days.
