Commentary
If you say: How does his saying وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآياتِنا follow? I say: When he mentioned of His creations and the effects of His power that testify to His lordship and call out to His greatness, he said: And the disbelievers are deaf; they do not hear the words of the one who warns. They are mute; they do not speak the truth. They are stumbling in the darkness of disbelief, so they are heedless of contemplating that and reflecting upon it. Then he said, indicating that they are of those who are sealed [the saying 'indicating that they are of those who are sealed' means the sealing of hearts. And the saying 'that is, He forsakes him...' explains misguidance in that, because He, glorified and exalted is He, does not create evil according to the Mu'tazila. However, according to the Ahl al-Sunnah, He creates evil just as He creates good. Thus, misguidance, in its apparent meaning to them, refers to the creation of misguidance in the heart.] Mَنْ يَشَأِ اللَّهُ يُضْلِلْهُ means He forsakes him and leaves him in his misguidance without kindness towards him. [Mawlid said: 'The meaning of He misguides him is He forsakes him and does not show kindness towards him...' Ahmad said: And this is from his distortions regarding guidance and misguidance, following his corrupt belief that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, does not create guidance or misguidance, and that they are among the creations of the servants. And how many times does this belief contradict him, and he tries to patch it up, while the tear has widened for the patcher, and Allah is the Grantor of success.] For he is not of those who receive kindness. وَمَنْ يَشَأْ يَجْعَلْهُ عَلَى صِراطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ means He shows kindness towards him because kindness is beneficial to him.
