Commentary
And it is recited: 'And this is My straight path,' with the lightening of 'And' and its origin is: 'And indeed this is My path,' on the basis that the 'he' is a pronoun of the matter and the discussion. And Al-A'mash recited: 'And this is My path.' And in the Mushaf of Abdullah: 'And this is the path of your Lord.' And in the Mushaf of Ubayy: 'And this is the path of your Lord.' And do not follow the paths, the different ways in religion, from Judaism, Christianity, Magianism, and all other innovations and misguidances, so that you may be divided by them, meaning your division will be like the hands of Sheba, away from His path, from the straight path of Allah, which is the religion of Islam. And it is recited: 'So be divided' with the merging of the 't.' And Abu Wail narrated from Ibn Mas'ud from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, that he drew a line and then said: 'This is the path of guidance,' then he drew lines to his right and to his left and then said: 'These are the paths, upon each path there is a devil calling to it.' Then he recited this verse: 'And indeed this is My straight path, so follow it.' And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: These verses are decisive, nothing from all the books has abrogated them. It is said that they are the Mother of the Book, and whoever acts upon them will enter Paradise, and whoever neglects them will enter Hell. And from Ka'b al-Ahbar: By the One in whose hand is the soul of Ka'b, these verses are the first thing in the Torah. If you say: What is the connection of His saying: 'Then We gave Moses the Book'? I say: It is connected to 'He commanded you with it.' If you say: How is it correct to connect it with 'then' - and the giving of the Book was long before the command? I say: This command is ancient, it has always been commanded by every nation through the tongue of their Prophet, as Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: Decisive verses, nothing from all the books has abrogated them, so it is as if it was said: That is what He commanded you with, O Children of Adam, long ago and recently.
