Tafsir for verses: 59:21, 59:22
21Had We sent down this Qur’ān to a mountain, you would have seen it humbled, burst apart out of awe for Allah. We cite such examples for people, so that they may ponder. 22He is Allah, besides whom there is no god, the Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is All-Merciful, Very-Merciful.

Commentary

This is a representation and an imagination. [Mawlid said: "This is imagination and representation as previously mentioned."] Ahmad said: "And this is something I previously denied regarding it. Should he not have behaved with the etiquette of the verse, where Allah named this a parable and did not say: 'And those imaginations we strike for the people'? May Allah inspire us with good etiquette with Him, and Allah is the Grantor of success." As mentioned in His saying: 'Indeed, We presented the trust.' This is indicated by His saying: 'And those are the parables We strike for the people.' The aim is to reprimand the human for the hardness of his heart and the lack of humility when reciting the Quran and reflecting on its warnings and admonitions. It has been read: 'musaddan' with assimilation. 'And those are the parables' refers to this parable and to its like in various places of revelation.
