This is a reminder for the people and a signal for them that due to their excessive negligence and lack of thought regarding the consequences, and their eagerness for the immediate pleasures and following desires, it is as if they do not know the difference between Paradise and Hell and the great distance between their inhabitants. The victory is with the companions of Paradise, so it is their right to know this and to be reminded of it, just as you would say to someone who disobeys his father: 'He is your father,' making him like someone who does not know him, so you remind him of the right of fatherhood that necessitates kindness and compassion. The followers of Al-Shafi'i, may Allah be pleased with him, have used this verse as evidence that a Muslim is not to be killed by a disbeliever, and that disbelievers do not possess the wealth of Muslims by force.
