Indeed, We have sent Our messengers, meaning the angels, to the prophets with clear signs, with proofs and miracles. And We sent down with them the Book, meaning the revelation, and the balance. It is narrated that Gabriel, blessings and peace be upon him, descended with the balance and gave it to Noah, saying: Command your people to weigh with it. And We sent down iron. It is said that Adam descended from Paradise with five things made of iron: the anvil, the two tongs, the hammer, and the needle. It is narrated: And with him were the rope and the hoe. And from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, it is reported that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, sent down four blessings from the heavens to the earth: He sent down iron, fire, water, and salt. It was narrated by Al-Thalabi from the hadith of Ibn Umar, and in its chain is someone I do not know. And from Al-Hasan, 'And We sent down iron': We created it, as His saying, 'And He sent down for you from the animals.' This is because His commands descend from the heavens, and His decrees and rulings in it have great strength, which is fighting with it, and benefits for the people in their interests, livelihoods, and crafts. There is no craft except that iron is a tool in it, or what is done with iron. And so that Allah may know who will support Him and His messengers by using swords, spears, and other weapons in striving against the enemies of the religion, while being unseen by them. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: They will support Him while they do not see Him. Indeed, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty, rich in His power and might in destroying whom He wills among them. And He has only obligated them to strive so that they may benefit from it and attain reward by obeying the command therein.
