Commentary
Race, hasten, in a manner like the racers among their peers in the arena, to a Paradise whose width is like the width of the heavens and the earth. Al-Suddi said: like the width of the seven heavens and the seven earths. The mention of width without length is because everything that has width and length has its width less than its length. So when its width is described as expansive, it is known that its length is more expansive and extended. It is permissible that by width, it means expansiveness, as in His saying: 'And he who has a wide supplication' when he belittled this world and diminished its matter and magnified the matter of the Hereafter. He sent His servants to hasten to attain what He promised of that: which is the forgiveness that saves from the severe punishment and the success of entering Paradise. That is the promised forgiveness and Paradise. The favor of Allah is His giving, He grants it to whom He wills, and they are the believers.
