Commentary
The ones who give charity, and it has been recited according to the original. And the ones who give charity are from the root of 'truthfulness', and they are those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, meaning the believers. If you say: What is the reason for the conjunction of His saying 'and they lend'? I say: It is in reference to the meaning of the action in 'the ones who give charity', because the 'lam' indicates those who, and the active participle means 'they are truthful', as if it were said: Indeed, those who are truthful and lend. The good loan is that one gives charity from what is good, with a pure heart and sound intention, to the one deserving of charity. And it has been recited: 'He multiplies', and 'He doubles', with a kasra on the 'ayn, meaning: Allah multiplies.
