Commentary
So they are taken by the forelocks and the feet. From al-Dhahhak: It is gathered between his forelock and his foot in a chain from behind his back. It is said that the angels drag them: sometimes taking by the forelocks, and sometimes taking by the feet. Hameem is hot water that has reached its heat and ripeness, meaning: they are punished with it between being burned by the fire and drinking the hameem. It is said: When they cry out for help from the fire, their relief is the hameem. It is said that there is a valley from the valleys of Hell where the pus of the people of the fire gathers, and they are taken away in chains, and they are immersed in it until their joints are dislocated, then they come out of it having been created anew by Allah. And it is read: they circle around from the circling. And they circle, meaning: they are made to circle and are circled around. In the reading of Abdullah: This is Hell which you both used to deny, you are being burned in it and will not die therein nor live, they circle between it. And the blessing of Allah in what He mentioned of the horror of the punishment: the salvation of the one who is saved from it by His mercy and grace, and what is in the warning of it from kindness.
