Commentary
Al-salsal: the dry clay has a sound. Al-fakhar: the clay cooked by fire, which is pottery. If you say: there is a difference in the revelation regarding this, and that is His saying, exalted and glorious is He, "from slimy clay," "from sticky clay," "from dust." I say: it is agreed in meaning, and it indicates that He created him from dust: He made him clay, then slimy clay, then salsal. Al-jann is the father of the jinn. It is said: he is Iblis. Al-marij: the pure flame that has no smoke in it. It is said: mixed with the blackness of fire, from maraja, which means when something is disturbed and mixed. If you say: what is the meaning of His saying "from fire?" I say: it is a clarification of marij, as if it were said: from pure fire. Or mixed from fire, or He meant from a specific fire, as His saying, exalted and glorious is He, "So I warned you of a fire that blazes."
