11So, woe to those who reject (the true faith), 12who are indulged in vain talk, playing (with truth), 13the Day they will be pushed to the Fire forcefully, 14(and it will be said to them,) “This is the Fire you used to deny. 15Is it then magic, or do you not see? 16Enter it. Now, whether you endure (it) patiently or impatiently, it is all the same for you; you are merely rewarded for what you used to do.”

Commentary

The dominance of engaging in the rush towards falsehood and lies. From it is His saying, 'And we used to engage with those who engaged.' And you engaged like those who engaged. 'Daa' means the intense push. This is because the guardians of the Fire will bind their hands to their necks, and gather their forelocks to their feet, and push them into the Fire, pushing them on their faces and striking them on their backs. Zayd ibn Ali read: 'They will be called,' from the call, meaning they will be told: 'Come to the Fire, and enter the Fire, being pushed.' They will be told: 'Is this Fire magic?' This means you used to say about the revelation, 'This is magic.' Is this magic? He means: Is this reality also magic? The 'fa' (and) entered for this meaning: 'Or are you not seeing?' as you were not seeing in the world, meaning: Or are you blind to what is being reported as you were blind to the news? This is a reprimand and mockery. 'It is the same' is a deleted news, meaning: It is the same for you both: patience and its absence. If you say: Why did he justify the equality of patience and its absence with His saying, 'You will only be recompensed for what you used to do?' I say: Because patience has an advantage over despair, due to its benefit in the outcome that the patient will be rewarded with good. As for patience in the punishment which is the recompense and has no outcome or benefit, it has no advantage over despair.
