Commentary
We know what they say. This is a threat to them and a consolation for the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, with a mighty one, as His saying, the Exalted, is: "with a dominant one" until they are compelled to believe. You are only a caller and a motivator. It has been said that it means to be patient with them and to refrain from harshness towards them. It is also possible that it is from 'jabra' meaning to compel him to the matter, that is: you are not a ruler over them to compel them to believe. And it is like saying: he is upon them, if he is their ruler and the owner of their affairs, who fears the threat, as His saying, the Exalted, is: "You are only a warner for those who fear it," because it is of no benefit except for the one who is not persistent in disbelief. From the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: "Whoever recites Surah Q, Allah will ease for him the pangs of death and its agonies." This was narrated by Al-Thalabi, Ibn Mardawayh, and Al-Wahidi from the hadith of Ubayy ibn Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him.
