Commentary
Certainly, we have known the response to their exclusion of resurrection. For His knowledge is so gentle that it penetrates to what the earth diminishes from the bodies of the dead and consumes of their flesh and bones. He is capable of returning them alive as they were. From the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him: "Every son of Adam decays except for the tailbone." [Agreed upon from the hadith of Abu Salih from Abu Huraira, and narrated by Al-Hakim from the hadith of Abu Sa'id, who added: "They said: What is it, O Messenger of Allah? He said: It is like a mustard seed, from it they grow back."] And from Al-Suddi: What the earth diminishes from them, when one of them dies and is buried in the earth, is a preserved record, safeguarded from the devils and from change, which is the preserved tablet. Or it is a guardian of what has been entrusted to it and written in it.
