إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَا ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ فِيهَا هُدٗى وَنُورٞۚ يَحۡكُمُ بِهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّونَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسۡلَمُواْ لِلَّذِينَ هَادُواْ وَٱلرَّبَّٰنِيُّونَ وَٱلۡأَحۡبَارُ بِمَا ٱسۡتُحۡفِظُواْ مِن كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُواْ عَلَيۡهِ شُهَدَآءَۚ فَلَا تَخۡشَوُاْ ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱخۡشَوۡنِ وَلَا تَشۡتَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِي ثَمَنٗا قَلِيلٗاۚ وَمَن لَّمۡ يَحۡكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ ٤٤ ﴿44
44Surely We have sent down the Torah, in which there was guidance and light by which the prophets, who submitted themselves to Allah, used to judge for the Jews, and (so did) the Men of Allah and the Men of knowledge, because they were ordained to protect the Book of Allah, and they stood guard over it. So, (O Jews of today,) do not fear people. Fear Me, and do not take a paltry price for My verses. Those who do not judge according to what Allah has sent down are the disbelievers.

And they rebelled by judging by other than it. And from Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the disbelievers, the wrongdoers, and the wicked are the people of the Book. And from him: You are the best of people, whatever is sweet is for you, and whatever is bitter is for the people of the Book. Whoever denies the ruling of Allah is a disbeliever, and whoever does not judge by it while acknowledging it is a wrongdoer and wicked. And from Al-Shabi: This is for the people of Islam, and the wrongdoers are among the Jews, and the wicked are among the Christians. And from Ibn Mas'ud: It is general for the Jews and others. And from Hudhayfa: You are the most similar of nations in appearance to the Children of Israel: you will surely follow their path, step by step, and inch by inch, except that I do not know whether you will worship the calf or not?
