Commentary
A witness who will testify about your nation, as His saying, 'And the Messenger will be a witness over you.' So that you may believe, the pronoun refers to the people, and you may support him and strengthen him with assistance, and you may honor him and exalt him, and you may glorify him with glorification. Or from [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN:subhah], and the pronouns refer to Allah, glorified and exalted is He, and the meaning of supporting Allah is supporting His religion and His Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him.
And whoever differentiates the pronouns has gone far astray. And it was recited: 'So that you may believe and support him.' It indicates that the reading with the 'ya' is the well-known one, and it may refer to differentiating the pronouns in the reading: 'And glorify Allah...' (the verse). And it was recited: 'And support him' with the 'za' being pronounced as a 'dhamma' and a 'kasra.'
And 'support him' with the 'ta' being pronounced with a 'dhamma' and lightened, and 'strengthen him' with two 'za's. And 'honor him' from 'waqara' meaning to honor him. And 'glorify Allah' in the morning and evening, according to Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: the Fajr prayer and the Dhuhr and Asr prayers.
