He will give you your rewards for your faith and piety, and He does not ask you anything, nor does He ask you all of it. Rather, He limits it to a quarter of a tenth. Then He said, "If He asks you for it, He will burden you," meaning He will exert effort and demand all of it. Al-Ihfaa means the intensity and reaching the goal in everything. It is said: He pressed him in the matter if he left nothing of insistence. And he has 'ihfaa' his mustache if he uprooted it. "Do not be stingy," and "He will bring forth your grudges," meaning you will harbor grudges against the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him. The saying "you will harbor grudges" indicates that you will narrow your chests because of that, and you will show your dislike and hatred for a religion that takes away your wealth. The pronoun in "He will bring forth" refers to Allah, the Exalted, meaning He will cause you to harbor grudges by demanding your wealth, or it refers to stinginess, as it is the cause of harboring grudges. And it was read: "We bring forth" with the pronoun "we". And "He brings forth," with the pronouns "He" and "you" with their openings and raising your grudges. These are connected in meaning to those who are called. That is, you are the ones who are called. Or you, O addressees, are those described. Then they began to describe them, as if they said: And what is our description? It was said: "You are called to spend in the way of Allah." It was said: It is the spending in battle. And it was said: It is the zakat, as if it was said: The evidence that if He burdened you, you would be stingy and dislike giving, and you would harbor grudges is that you are called to pay a quarter of a tenth, and among you are people who are stingy with it. Then He said, "And whoever is stingy with charity and fulfilling the obligation, he will not harm anyone but himself." It is said: "He was stingy with him" and "from him," and likewise "he was miserly with him" and "from him." Then He informed that He does not command that or call to it due to His need for it, for He is the Rich, for whom needs are impossible. But for your need and poverty for the reward. "And if you turn away" is connected to: "And if you believe and are pious, He will replace a people other than you." He will bring forth a people other than you who are different from your description, eager for faith and piety, not turning away from them, as His saying, "And He will bring forth a new creation." And it was said: They are the angels. And it was said: The Ansar. And from Ibn Abbas: Kinda and Al-Nakha. And from Al-Hasan: The non-Arabs. And from Ikrimah: Persia and Rome. The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, was asked about the people while Salman was beside him, and he struck his thigh and said: "This and his people, by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if faith were to be suspended in the Pleiades, men from Persia would reach it." And it was narrated from the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, "Whoever recites Surah Muhammad, it is a right upon Allah to give him to drink from the rivers of Paradise."
