Commentary
And indeed, Jesus, peace be upon him, is a sign for the Hour. This means a condition among its signs that is known by it. Therefore, the condition is called knowledge due to the attainment of knowledge by it. Ibn Abbas read: 'for knowledge,' which is the sign. It was also read: 'for the knowledge.' Ubayy read: 'for a reminder,' by naming what is mentioned as a reminder, just as what is known is called knowledge. In the hadith, it is stated that Jesus, peace be upon him, will descend at a place called Afiq in the blessed land, wearing two garments, with oily hair, and holding a spear, with which he will kill the Dajjal. He will come to Bayt al-Maqdis while the people are in the Fajr prayer, and the imam is leading them. The imam will step back, and Jesus will lead them in prayer according to the Sharia of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him. Then he will kill the pigs, break the cross, destroy the synagogues and churches, and kill the Christians except for those who believe. [This was narrated by Al-Thalabi without a chain. It is found in various hadiths. The statement 'the place Afiq' is found in Al-Hakim from the hadith of Uthman ibn Abi al-As. The statement 'and he is wearing two garments' is found in Ahmad and Al-Hakim from the hadith of Abu Huraira. The statement 'and the people are in the Fajr prayer' is found in Ibn Majah from the hadith of Abu Usamah. The statement 'he will kill the pig and break the cross' is in the Sahih from the hadith of Abu Huraira.]
And from Al-Hasan: that the pronoun refers to the Qur'an, and that the Hour is learned by it, because it announces it. So do not doubt about it, from the doubt which is uncertainty, and follow Me and follow My guidance and My Sharia. Or My messenger. It was said: this is a command for the Messenger of Allah to say, 'This is a Straight Path,' meaning this to which I invite you. Or this Qur'an if the pronoun in 'And indeed' refers to the Qur'an.
