It is that they limit themselves in seeking victory to what Allah has made permissible for them and do not transgress. Al-Nakha'i said that when he recited it, he would say: They disliked humiliating themselves so that the wicked would dare to oppress them. If you say: Are they praiseworthy for seeking victory? I say: Yes, because whoever takes his right without exceeding the limits set by Allah and what He has commanded, and does not commit excess in killing if he is avenging blood against a fool, defending his honor and deterring him, he is obedient. And every obedient person is praiseworthy.
