Commentary

And those who avoid, this is an addition to those who believe, and likewise what follows. And the meaning of major sins is the major sins of this kind. It has also been recited as major sin. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: major sin is shirk. They forgive, meaning they are the ones who are most specific in forgiveness in a state of anger. Anger does not overpower their reason as it does with the reason of people. And bringing them forth and establishing 'they forgive' to it is for this benefit. An example of this is: they seek victory.
