And 'wa ma bath' can be raised or genitive, depending on what it is added to or what it is added from. If you say: Why is it permissible in both of them from a creature, while the creatures are only in the earth? I say: It is permissible to attribute something to all that is mentioned, even if it is mixed with some of it, just as it is said: The sons of Tamim have among them an eloquent poet or a brave hero, and he is only in a thigh of their thighs or a lineage of their lineages. And the sons of so-and-so did such and such, and it was only done by Nuwas among them. And from it is His saying, the Exalted, 'Pearls and corals emerge from both of them,' and it only emerges from the salty water. Ahmad said: The use of 'creatures' for humans is far from the language's understanding, so how about its use for angels? And the correct view, and Allah knows best, is the first one, and it has come explained in more than one verse, such as His saying, 'Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the difference of night and day,' then He said, 'And what Allah has sent down from the heavens from water, and He gives life to the earth after its death and spreads therein every creature,' and this matter is specifically for the earth, and Allah knows best. And it is permissible for the angels, peace be upon them, to walk along with flying. They can be described as creeping just as humans are described. And it is not far-fetched that a creature is created in the heavens that walks in it like humans walk on earth. Glory be to the One who created what we know and what we do not know from the types of creation. It enters upon the present tense just as it enters upon the past tense. Allah, the Exalted, said, 'And the night when it covers,' and from it is 'when He wills.' And the poet said: 'And when I will, I send forth from it... the last of the night, active and terrified.'
