It is said: I accepted something from him, and I accepted it from him. The meaning of I accepted it from him: I took it from him and made it the beginning of my acceptance and its source.

And the meaning of I accepted it from him: I isolated it from him and distanced it from him. Repentance is to return from the ugly and the neglect of the obligatory by regretting them and resolving not to return, because what is returned from is ugly and neglect of the obligatory. And if there is a right owed to a servant, there is no way to avoid it except through its path.

Jabir narrated that a Bedouin entered the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and said: O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You, and he declared the takbir. When he finished his prayer, Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him: O this, the quickness of the tongue in seeking forgiveness is the repentance of the liars, and your repentance needs repentance. He said: O Commander of the Faithful, what is repentance? He said: A name that encompasses six meanings: for the past sins, regret; for the neglect of the obligatory, repetition; returning the wrongs; and to have the soul in obedience as you raised it in disobedience; and to make the soul taste the bitterness of obedience as you made it taste the sweetness of disobedience; and to weep instead of every laughter you laughed. And He forgives the sins of the major sins if repented from them, and the minor sins if the major sins are avoided. And He knows what you do. It was read with the 'ta' and the 'ya': meaning He knows it and rewards for the good deeds, and punishes for the bad deeds.
