Commentary
So for that reason, due to the division and what has occurred because of it from the branching of disbelief into factions, call for agreement and coalition upon the ancient Hanif faith. And remain steadfast upon it and upon calling to it as Allah has commanded you. And do not follow their differing false desires based on what Allah has revealed from a Book, any Book that has been confirmed that Allah revealed, meaning belief in all the revealed Books. For the divided ones have believed in some and disbelieved in some, as His saying, 'And they say, We believe in some and we disbelieve in some,' until His saying, 'Those are the true disbelievers.' I will be just among you in judgment when you dispute and refer to me; there is no argument between us and you, meaning no dispute, for the truth has appeared, and you have become refuted by it, so there is no need for argumentation. Its meaning is: there is no presentation of evidence between us, because the disputants present their evidence, and Allah will gather between us on the Day of Resurrection and will separate between us and take vengeance for us from you. This is a hindrance and a cessation after the truth has appeared and the evidence has been established and enforced. If you say: How were they hindered when what was done to them afterward included killing, destroying houses, cutting down palm trees, and exile? I say: The intended hindrance is in the positions of negotiation, not in fighting.
