67He is the One who created you from dust, then from a drop of semen, then from a clot. After that, He takes you out as an infant. Then, (He makes you grow) so that you reach your full maturity, and, thereafter, become old - and some of you die earlier - and so that you reach the appointed term, and so that you understand.

Commentary

To reach your full strength is related to an omitted action, which is understood as: then He will keep you to reach. Likewise, to be. As for 'and to reach a specified term,' its meaning is: and We do that so that you reach a specified term, which is the time of death. It is also said: the Day of Resurrection. And it has been read as 'shuyookhan' with a kasrah on the sheen, and 'shaykhan' in the singular, like the saying 'tiiflan,' and the meaning is: each one of you. Or it may refer to the singular, because the purpose is to clarify the type from before old age or from before these conditions when he emerges as a newborn. And perhaps you will understand what is in that of lessons and proofs.
