Commentary
If you say: How is his saying 'The creation of the heavens and the earth' connected to what preceded it? I say: Their argument regarding the signs of Allah included the denial of resurrection, which is the essence and focus of the argument. They cited the creation of the heavens and the earth because they acknowledged that Allah is their Creator and that it is a great creation whose magnitude cannot be measured. The creation of humans, in comparison to it, is something small and insignificant. So, whoever is capable of creating it, with its greatness, is certainly more capable of creating the human being, with its insignificance. This is more eloquent than citing the creation of something similar. [Mahran said: 'If you say: How is his saying 'The creation of the heavens and the earth' connected to what preceded it? He answered that their argument regarding the signs of Allah included the denial of resurrection, which is the essence and focus of the argument. They cited the creation of the heavens and the earth because they acknowledged that Allah is their Creator, and that it is a great creation. The creation of humans, in comparison to it, is something small and insignificant. So, whoever is capable of creating it, with its greatness, is certainly more capable of creating the weak human being, and this is more eloquent than citing the creation of something similar.' Ahmad said: The priority in this citation is established in two degrees. One is what he mentioned, that the one who is capable of the great is more capable of the insignificant. The second is that their argument was about resurrection, which is the return, and there is no doubt that the beginning is greater and more astonishing than the return. So, if the beginning of the creation of the great, meaning the heavens and the earth, falls under the ability, then the beginning of the creation of the insignificant, meaning humans, is also included under it. And its return is more included than its beginning, so it is more deserving to be within the realm of what they acknowledged regarding the creation of the heavens and the earth by two degrees. And to this arrangement, there is an indication in His saying, the Exalted: 'The Romans have been defeated.' And among His signs is that the heavens and the earth stand by His command. Then when He calls you with a call from the earth, you will emerge. He established that the standing of the heavens and the earth is by His command, meaning: Their creation is among His signs. So how about what is two degrees lower than their standing, which is the resurrection of humans, which is easier for Him than the beginning, to confirm the two mentioned degrees? He said: 'And He is the One who begins creation, then He returns it, and that is easier for Him.' And if you reflect on what I mentioned in relation to what Al-Zamakhshari mentioned, you will know that what he mentioned is the essence of the intended meaning, so renew your covenant with it if you did not know that.] They do not know because they do not look or reflect due to the dominance of heedlessness over them and their following of their desires.
