Commentary
The calling out. What Allah, the Most High, mentioned in Surah Al-A'raf from His saying, "And the companions of Paradise called to the companions of the Fire," and "And the companions of the Fire called to the companions of Paradise." It is permissible that their calling out is with woe and destruction. And it was recited with emphasis:
This means that some of them call out to one another, as His saying, "On the Day a man will flee from his brother." And from Al-Dhahak: When they hear the roaring of the Fire, they call out in fear, so they do not come to any of the regions except that they find angels in rows. While they are surging into one another, they hear a caller: "Come to the reckoning!" They will turn away, retreating, according to Qatadah, turning away from the standing place of reckoning to the Fire. And from Mujahid: fleeing from the Fire, not able to escape.
