And they say, when you command them with something, obedience is raised, meaning our command and our matter is obedience. It is permissible to have it in the accusative meaning we have obeyed you in obedience. This is from the saying of the one who is obedient: 'I heard and obeyed,' and 'I hear and obey.' Similar is the saying of Sibawayh: 'And we heard some of the trustworthy Arabs being asked: How did you wake up? He says: Praise be to Allah and thanks to Him,' as if he said: My matter and my affair is the praise of Allah. And if he had said: Praise be to Allah and thanks to Him, it would have been in the accusative, and the raising indicates the stability of obedience and its establishment. A group plotted against another group and fabricated what they say contrary to what you said and what you commanded. Or contrary to what they said and what they guaranteed of obedience, because they nullified the rejection, not the acceptance, and the disobedience, not the obedience. They only act hypocritically with what they say and show. And plotting is either from the act of staying overnight because it is the conclusion of the matter and its management at night; it is said: This matter was plotted at night. Or it is from verses of poetry, because the poet arranges and composes them. And Allah writes what they plot, affirming it in the records of their deeds, and He will reward them for it as a warning. Or He writes it in the totality of what is revealed to you, so He informs you of their secrets. So let them not think that their concealment will benefit them. So turn away from them and do not let your soul dwell on taking revenge on them, and rely upon Allah regarding them, for Allah is sufficient for you against their evil. [The saying 'against their evil' means their sin. The wording of Al-Nasafi is 'their harm,' so clarify.] And He will take revenge for you from them when the matter of Islam becomes strong and its supporters are honored. And it has been recited: 'A group plotted' with the merging and the masculine form of the verb, because the feminine of 'group' is not real, and because it is in the meaning of a team and a troop.
