60And on the Day of Judgment, you will see those who had forged lies against Allah (in a state) that their faces are turned black. Is it not that in Jahannam there is an abode for the arrogant?

Commentary

They lied about Allah and attributed to Him what is not permissible for Him, and He is exalted. [Mahmoud said: "This refers to those who described Him, exalted is He, with what is not permissible for Him, and He is exalted above it..." Ahmad said: "He has exceeded the limits of interpretation due to a disease in his heart for which there is no cure except the guidance that he has been deprived of, and only the One who has decreed this misguidance and made it inevitable can heal him from it. We will impose the punishment of apostasy upon him, for he has revealed his true nature. Were it not for the condition of the Book, we would have turned away from him and averted our gaze from him entirely. And with Allah is the success. We say: As for his insinuation that the people of the Sunnah believe that the evils are the actions of Allah, he is condemned by their belief, which is indicated by His saying after verses from this Surah: "Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Trustee over all things." As for Al-Zamakhshari and his fellow Qadarites, they distort the meaning of this verse and say: "He is not the Creator of all things, because evils are things and are not created by Him."

So they believed that they were glorified, while in fact they associated partners with Him. As for his insinuation that they allow for the creation of something without purpose, that is because His actions, glorified and exalted is He, are not for a reason, for He is the doer of what He wills. According to the Qadarites, He is not the doer of what He wills, because an action is either accompanied by wisdom and benefit, in which case it must be done according to them, or it lacks such qualities, in which case it must not be done. So where is the effect of will then? As for his belief that imposing what is unbearable is an injustice to Allah, glorified and exalted is He, that belief is false. This is because it is established as a necessary consequence of their belief that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, is the creator of the actions of His servants. Thus, the obligation regarding them is an obligation regarding what is not created for them. The first principle is true, and the consequence of the truth is true. There is no meaning to injustice except acting in the property of another without their permission. The servants are the property of Allah, glorified and exalted is He. So how can true injustice be conceived from Him? Allah is far above what the wrongdoers say. As for his insinuation that they allow for causing pain without compensation, it can be said to him: What do you say, O suspicious one, about causing pain to animals and children, with no compensation for them, and not based on any prior entitlement, contrary to the Qadarites who say: Pain must be based on prior entitlement or compensation. As for his belief that allowing the vision of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, necessitates the belief in corporeality, he is deceived in his belief by the rational proofs that permit that, while being free from the belief in corporeality. He does not realize that he is opposing the guidance of the words of the Prophet of guidance, blessings and peace be upon him: "You will see your Lord like the full moon on the night of its fullness, and you will not be harmed in seeing Him." This text is free from interpretation, and nothing can deter one who adheres to it from exaggeration. As for his statement that they conceal themselves with the term 'bilakifah', he means by their saying "without how". Indeed, it is a concealment that the hand of falsehood cannot tear apart, nor can the eye of misguidance stray far from guidance. As for his insinuation that they attribute partners to Allah by affirming with Him eternal beings, this is a denial of their affirmation of the attributes of perfection. No, by Allah, it is the Qadarites who have made partners for Allah by claiming that they create what they want and desire against the will of their Lord. Until they said: What they wish happens, and what Allah wills does not happen. As for the people of the Sunnah, they have not increased in their belief that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has knowledge, power, will, hearing, sight, speech, and life, according to what reason indicates and what the law has brought. And what excuse does the Qadarite have when he hears His saying: "And Our Lord encompasses all things in knowledge" except to believe that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has knowledge or to deny the signs of Allah and extinguish His light? And Allah refuses except to complete His light, even if the disbelievers dislike it. As for his statement that they affirm for Allah, glorified and exalted is He, a hand, a foot, and a face, that is a slander without doubt. No one from the people of the Sunnah has said that. Rather, Al-Qadi Abu Bakr affirmed auditory attributes mentioned in the Qur'an: the two hands, the two eyes, and the face, and he did not exceed in affirming them beyond what was mentioned in the Book of Allah, the Mighty. Others from the people of the Sunnah interpreted the two hands as power and grace, and the face as the essence. This has been discussed in various places in the Book. He has characterized himself in this discussion with a state of one who searches with his hoof for his own destruction, and his insinuation of his corrupt belief exposes his concealment and reveals it. What prompted me to be stern in addressing him was my anger for Allah, glorified and exalted is He, and for His Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, and for the people of His Sunnah. He has praised them for their manners, while forgetting them with his lies to the lies. And Allah is the grantor of success.

Their saying 'without how'. (A) And the allowance that He creates creation without purpose, and causes pain without compensation, and they wrong Him by imposing what cannot be borne, and they embody Him by making Him visible, perceived by the senses. They affirm for Him a hand, a foot, and a side, hiding behind the veil. They make rivals for Him by affirming alongside Him ancient ones, whose faces are entirely blackened in the state of being if it is seen by the sight, and a second object if it is from the sight of the heart.
