Commentary
Baal [[His saying 'the husband of the Messenger of Allah' in the authentic texts: 'the husband of the man' with a kasra, meaning: astonished. (A)]] is the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, with them, and with the strength of their stubbornness in disbelief and obstinacy. It was said to him:
Invoke Allah by His greatest names, and say: You alone are able to judge between me and them, and there is no way for anyone else with them. In it is a description of their state and an excuse for the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and a consolation for him and a warning for them. And from Al-Rabi' ibn Khuthaym [[His saying 'and from Al-Rabi' ibn Khuthaym' in Al-Nasafi: Khuthaym. (A)]] who was brief in speech. He was informed of the killing of Al-Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him, and he was angry with his killer. They said: Now he will speak, but he did not say more than: Ah, have they done it? And he recited this verse. It was narrated that he said afterwards: He was killed, the one whom the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, used to sit in his lap and place his mouth on his mouth.
