And he who brought the truth and believed in it is the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: he came with the truth and believed in it, and he meant by it himself and those who followed him, just as he meant by Moses himself and his people in His saying: 'And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture so that they might be guided.' Therefore, he said: 'Those are the righteous.' However, this is in description and that is in name. It is permissible that he means: and the group or team that brought the truth and believed in it, and they are the Messenger who brought the truth and his companions who believed in it. And in the reading of Ibn Mas'ud: 'And those who came with the truth and believed in it.' And it was read: 'And believed in it.' with a lightening, meaning: the people believed in it and did not lie about it, meaning: he conveyed it to them as it was revealed to him without distortion. It was said: he became truthful by it, meaning: because of it, because the Qur'an is a miracle, and the miracle is a confirmation from the Wise One who does not do what is vile for the one through whom it occurs, and it is not permissible for anyone to be truthful except the truthful, thus he becomes truthful by the miracle. And it was read: 'And he confirmed it.' If you say: What is the meaning of adding the worst and the best to what they have done, and what is the meaning of the preference in them? I say: As for the addition, it is not from adding the comparative form to the sentence that it is preferred over, but from adding something to what is part of it without preference, like saying: 'The Ashajj is the most just of the sons of Marwan.' As for the preference, it indicates that the evil that they commit from minor sins and mistakes that are expiated is for them the worst due to their magnifying the sin, and the good that they do is with Allah the best, due to their sincerity in it. Therefore, he mentioned their evil with the worst and their good with the best. And it was read: 'The worst of what they have done' as a plural of evil.
