Commentary

Say, O Muhammad, to the polytheists of Mecca: I am but a messenger warning you of the punishment of Allah for the polytheists. And I say to you: The religion of truth is the oneness of Allah, and to believe that there is no deity except Allah, the One, without equal or partner, the All-Prevailing over everything. And that sovereignty and lordship belong to Him in the entire world, and He is the Mighty who cannot be overcome if He punishes the disobedient. And yet, He is the Forgiving for the sins of those who turn to Him. Or say to them: I am but a warner to you of what I know, and I warn you of a punishment of one who has such a description. For indeed, one like him is worthy of fearing his punishment, just as he is worthy of hoping for his reward.
