Commentary
For a mad poet, they mean Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him. Rather, he came with the truth, a response to the polytheists, and he affirmed the messengers, as in his saying, 'affirming what is before him.' And it was read: 'For those who will taste the punishment,' with the accusative on the assumption of the nun, as in his saying: 'And none remembers Allah except a few.' [The explanation of this evidence was provided in the first part, page 448, so refer to it if you wish, the corrector said.] With the assumption of the tanween. And it was read in the original: 'For those who will taste the punishment,' except for what you used to do. Except for what you have done, a recompense for an evil deed with an evil deed.
