And they made a relationship between Allah and the angels, claiming that they are His daughters. The meaning is: they made what they said a relationship between Allah and themselves, and they established for Him a collective identity that includes both Him and the angels. If you ask: why did they call the angels 'jinn'? I would say: they said the genus is one. However, those who are wicked among the jinn and the rebellious, who are all evil, are devils, while those who are pure among them and worshipful, who are all good, are angels. So, He mentioned them in this context by their genus, and they mentioned them by this name out of their own disdain and belittlement of them, even though they hold themselves in high regard to reach the level of the relationship they attributed to them. And it indicates that one of His attributes is concealment and hiding, which is one of the attributes of bodies, and it is not appropriate to relate to one who does not possess that. An example of this is that you do not equate a king with some of his special ones and close associates, and he would say to you: do you equate me with my servant? And if he mentions him in another context, he would honor him and give him a title. The pronoun in 'Indeed, they will be brought' refers to the disbelievers. The meaning is: they say what they say about the angels, and the angels know that they are lying and fabricating, and that they will be brought to the Fire and punished for what they say, and the intent is to emphasize the denial, as it is attributed to the knowledge of those who claimed that relationship for them. It has been said: they claimed that Allah has kinship with the jinn, and thus the angels emerged. It has also been said: they claimed that Allah and the devil are brothers. And from Al-Hasan: they associated the jinn in the obedience of Allah. It is permissible, if the jinn is interpreted as devils, that the pronoun in 'Indeed, they will be brought' refers to them, meaning that the devils know that Allah will bring them to the Fire and punish them. If they were equal to Him or partners in the obligation of obedience, He would not punish them except for the sincere servants of Allah, which is an exception that is disconnected from those being brought: its meaning is that the sincere ones are saved. And glorified is Allah: an interjection between the exception and what has occurred from it. It is also permissible for the exception to occur from the 'and' in 'they describe,' meaning: these people describe Him with that, but the sincere ones are free from describing Him with it.
