48And they say, “When will this promise come true, if you are truthful?” 49They are looking for nothing but for a single Cry that will seize them when they will be quarrelling. 50So they will not be able to make a bequest, nor will they return to their household.

Commentary

You are nothing but in clear error, the saying of Allah to them. Or it is a narration of the saying of the believers to them. Or it is part of their response to the believers. It has been recited: 'And they argue' with the merging of the ت into the ص, with the opening of the خ and its breaking, and following the ي with the خ in the breaking. And they argue according to the original. And they argue, from خصمه. The meaning is that it surprises them while they are in their security and heedlessness of it, not thinking of it, being occupied with their disputes in their trades and dealings and all that they argue and quarrel about. And the meaning of 'they argue' is that some of them argue against others. It is said: They are taken while they are among themselves arguing in the proof that they will not be resurrected, so they cannot make a will regarding any of their affairs nor can they return to their homes and families, but they die in such a way that the cry surprises them.
