5O mankind, Allah’s promise is definitely true, therefore, the worldly life must not deceive you, nor should you be deceived about Allah by the big deceiver (Satan). 6Surely ShaiTān (Satan) is an enemy for you. So, take him as an enemy. He only invites his group (to falsehood) so that they become inmates of the blazing fire. 7Those who disbelieve will have a severe punishment; and those who believe and do righteous deeds will have forgiveness and a great reward.

Commentary

Allah has promised the brave with reward and punishment, so let not the world deceive you. Do not let the enjoyment of it and the pleasure of its benefits distract you from working for the Hereafter and seeking what is with Allah. And let not the deceiver deceive you concerning Allah. Let him not say to you, "Do as you wish, for Allah is Forgiving; He forgives every major sin and pardons every mistake." [Mawood said: "Its meaning is: And let not the devil say to you, 'Do as you wish, for Allah is Forgiving; He forgives every major sin and pardons every mistake.'" Ahmad said: "He is referring to the people of Sunnah in their belief in the permissibility of forgiving major sins for the monotheist, even if there is no repentance.

This does not contradict the truth of His promise, because Allah, the Exalted, when He warned against major sins, coupled the promise with His will, as in His saying to them: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills." They are therefore believers in Allah's promise, certain of it according to what has been revealed.] The deceiver is the devil, for that is his nature. It has also been read with a dammah, which is the source of 'gharra' like 'lazum' and 'nahook,' or the plural of 'ghar' like 'qa'id' and 'qu'ud.' Allah, the Exalted, has informed us that the devil is a clear enemy to us, and He recounted to us his story and what he did to our father Adam, peace be upon him, and how he was appointed to enmity against our kind before and after his existence. Yet we take him as a friend and obey him in what leads to our destruction. So Allah, the Exalted, admonished us that just as you know your enemy, who has no enemy more entrenched in enmity than him, you deal with him as if you have no knowledge of his condition. So take him as an enemy in your beliefs and actions, and let there be nothing from you except what indicates your enmity and opposition to him in your secret and open affairs. Then He summarized the essence of his matter and the error of those who followed him, stating that his goal in calling his followers and those who tread in his footsteps is to lead them to the path of misery and destruction, and that they become among the companions of the blazing fire. Then He unveiled the cover and stripped the bark, to cut off empty hopes and false dreams, establishing the matter entirely on faith and action and abandoning both.
