45If Allah were to take mankind to task for what they did, He would have not left a living creature on its back, but He delays them upto an appointed time. So when their time will come, then Allah is the One who will see His slaves.

Commentary

By what they have earned, by what they have committed of their sins, upon the surface of it, upon the surface of the earth, from any creature, from any being that moves upon it, he means by saying the children of Adam. It is said: What the children of Adam and others have left of all creatures is due to the evil of their sins.

And from Ibn Mas'ud: The beetle is almost punished in its burrow because of the sin of the son of Adam, [it was narrated by Al-Hakim and has been mentioned previously in An-Nahl], then he recited this verse. And from Anas:

The lizard indeed dies emaciated in its burrow because of the sin of the son of Adam [I did not find this from Anas, and it has been mentioned previously in An-Nahl from Abu Huraira. The compiler attributed it to him correctly]. And it is said: Rain is withheld, so everything perishes until a specified term until the Day of Resurrection. He was indeed All-Aware of His servants, a warning of recompense.

From the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Whoever recites Surah Al-Mala'ika, eight gates of Paradise will call him: Enter from whichever gate you wish.' [It was narrated by Al-Thalabi, Ibn Mardawayh, and Al-Wahidi from the hadith of Abu K'ab, may Allah be pleased with him.] This is the fourth part.
