Commentary
The burden and the weight: they are two brothers. The burden of a thing is when it is carried. The one who bears the burden is a description of the self. The meaning is that every soul on the Day of Resurrection will not bear except its own burden that it has incurred. No soul will bear the sin of another soul, as the tyrants of this world take the guardian for the guardian and the neighbor for the neighbor. If you say: Why was it not said: And no soul bears the burden of another?
And why was it said 'and a bearer'? I say: Because the meaning is that the bearing souls do not see one of them except carrying its own burden, not the burden of others. If you say: How do you reconcile this with His saying: And they will bear their burdens and burdens along with their burdens? I say: That verse is about the misguided misleaders, and that they will bear the burdens of misleading people along with the burdens of their own misguidance. All of that is their burdens, and there is nothing of the burden of others in it. Do you not see how Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has denied them in their saying: Follow our way, and we will bear your sins, by His saying: And they will not bear any of their sins at all?
If you say: What is the difference between the meaning of His saying: And no bearer bears the burden of another and the meaning of: And if a heavy-laden one calls to carry it, nothing will be carried from it? I say: The first indicates the justice of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, in His judgment, and that He does not hold a soul accountable for the sin of another. The second indicates that there will be no help on that Day for whoever seeks help, so that if a soul has been burdened with weights and is overwhelmed, if it calls for someone to lighten its burden, it will not be answered or helped, even if the one called is a relative, such as a father, child, or brother. If you say: To whom is it attributed in: And if a heavy-laden one calls?
I say: To the one being called, understood from the saying: And if a heavy-laden one calls. If you say: Why was the mention of the one being called omitted? I say: So that it encompasses and includes every caller. If you say: How is the generality implied? And it cannot be correct that the generality is a relative for the heavy-laden one? I say: It is from the generality that occurs in the manner of substitution. If you say: What do you say about one who reads: And if he were a relative as a complete form, like His saying: And if he is in hardship? I say: The arrangement of the words is better suited for the incomplete form, because the meaning is that if the heavy-laden one calls someone to carry it, nothing will be carried from it, even if the one called is a relative. This is a correct and coherent meaning. If you had said: Even if a relative were found, it would have become disjointed and lost its coherence.
As for the fact that here it is permissible for a pronoun to be hidden in the verb, unlike what you presented: in the unseen, as a state of the doer or the object, meaning: they fear their Lord while being absent from His punishment or they fear His punishment while being absent from them. It is said: in the unseen in secret, and this is a description of those who were with the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, from his companions. Their continuous habit was to fear Allah, and they were those who established prayer and left it as a raised banner and a lifted sign. This means: You are only able to warn these and caution them from your people, and to gain the benefit of warning them without their rebellious ones and the people of their obstinacy. And whoever purifies himself by performing good deeds and abandoning sins. And it was read: And whoever is purified, for he is indeed purified, which is an emphatic objection to their fear and their establishment of prayer, because both are part of purification. And to Allah is the final destination, a promise for the purified ones of reward. If you say: How is the saying: You only warn connected to what preceded it? I say: When He was angry with them in His saying: If He wills, He will remove you, He followed it with the warning of the Day of Resurrection and mentioned its terrors, then He said: You only warn, as if the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, heard that, and it was of no benefit, so it was revealed: You only warn, or Allah, glorified and exalted is He, informed him of His knowledge about them.
