Commentary
If you call upon the idols, they do not hear your supplication because they are inanimate. And if they were to hear, hypothetically and as an example, they would not respond to you because they do not call upon what you call upon them for in terms of divinity, and they disavow it.
It was said: They do not benefit you; they disbelieve in your associating partners with Allah. [The phrase 'they disbelieve in your associating partners with Allah' seems to have lost its explanation, and in the Nasafi it states: they disbelieve in your associating partners with Allah: by your associating them and your worship of them, and they say: 'You did not worship us,' and it does not inform you... etc. (A)] And no one informs you like the All-Aware. No informant can tell you about the matter like one who is knowledgeable about it. What is meant is that the one who is knowledgeable about the matter alone is the one who informs you of the truth, unlike other informants. The meaning is that what I have informed you about regarding the state of the idols is the truth, for I am knowledgeable about what I have informed you.
And it was read: 'they call' with a yā and a tā.
