Commentary
Those who have wronged, meaning those who have associated partners with Allah, as His saying goes: 'Indeed, associating partners with Allah is a great wrong.' Without knowledge, meaning they followed their desires while being ignorant. For the knowledgeable person, if he succumbs to his desires, his knowledge may restrain him and hold him back. As for the ignorant, he wanders aimlessly like an animal, with nothing to stop him. Whom Allah has led astray, meaning whom He has forsaken, [the saying 'whom Allah has led astray: whom He has forsaken' is based on the belief that He does not create evil, which is the view of the Mu'tazila. The people of the Sunnah believe that He creates evil just as He creates good, so the verse is taken at face value.] and He has not shown kindness to him, for He knows that he is among those who do not deserve kindness. So who can guide someone like him? And His saying, 'And they have no helpers,' is evidence that the intended meaning of leading astray is forsaking.
