Commentary
Al-Iblās: that is, he remains miserable, silent, and perplexed. It is said: I argued with him, and he became iblās, if he did not speak. He means by saying that he did not talk. He has lost hope of being able to argue. From it, the she-camel al-mablās: which does not grunt. And it is recited: yablis, with the opening of the lām, from ablasa if he silenced him. From their partners, those whom they worshiped besides Allah, and they were disbelievers in their partners, that is, they disbelieved in their divinity and denied it. Or they were disbelievers in the world because of them. And it is written 'shafā'ū' in the mushaf with a wāw before the alif, as 'ʿilmū' Bani Isrā'īl' is written, and likewise 'al-sū'ā' is written with an alif before the yā to affirm the hamzah in the form of the letter that caused its movement.
