Do not let our hearts deviate. Do not test us with trials that cause our hearts to stray. [Mahamud said: "Its meaning is: Our Lord, do not test us with trials... etc."] Ahmad said: As for the people of the Sunnah, they call upon Allah with this supplication without distortion. They affirm the true oneness of Allah, believing that every occurrence of guidance and deviation is created by Allah, the Exalted. As for the Qadarites, they believe that deviation is not created by Allah, the Exalted, but rather the servant creates it for himself. They do not call upon Allah with this supplication except in a distorted manner, contrary to its intended meaning, as the author has interpreted it. Even though we call upon Allah, the Exalted, in addition to this supplication that He does not test us and does not withhold His kindness from us, amen. For all actions and creations belong to Him, and nothing exists except Him and His actions, from which we and our actions derive. After You have guided us and directed us to Your religion. Or do not withhold Your kindness from us after You have shown us kindness from You, a mercy from You, a blessing of guidance and assistance. And it has been read: Do not let our hearts deviate, with the letter 'taa' and 'yaa' and the hearts in the nominative form. The gathering of people for a day means to gather them for the reckoning of a day or for the recompense of a day, as Allah, the Exalted, said: "On the Day He gathers you for the Day of Gathering." And it has been read: The gathering of people, according to the original form. "Indeed, Allah does not break the promise" means that divinity contradicts breaking the promise, like saying: The generous does not disappoint the one who asks. And the promise is the appointed time. It was read by [radiyallahu anhu]. It will not suffice with the stillness of the 'yaa', and this is due to seriousness in finding the movement burdensome on the letters of ease.
