55When Allah said: “O ‘Īsā , I am to take you in full and to raise you towards Myself, and to cleanse you of those who disbelieve, and to place those who follow you above those who disbelieve up to the Day of Doom. Then to Me is your return, whereupon I shall judge between you in that over which you have differed. 56As for those who disbelieve, I shall punish them a severe punishment in this world and in the Hereafter; and for them there are no helpers.” 57As for those who believe and do good deeds, He (Allah) will give them their rewards in full. Allah does not like transgressors.

Commentary

When Allah said, "Indeed, I will take you" is a context for the good of the schemers or for the scheming of Allah. "Indeed, I will take you" means I will complete your term.

Its meaning is: I will protect you from being killed by the disbelievers and I will delay you to a term that I have written for you. And I will cause you to die by your own death, not as a victim by their hands. And I will raise you to Me to My heavens and the abode of My angels. And I will purify you from those who disbelieved, from the evil of their companionship and the wickedness of their company.

It is said that "taking you" means to seize you from the earth, as in "I have taken my due from so-and-so" if I have completed it. It is also said: "I will cause you to die at your time after descending from the heavens and I will raise you now."

And it is said: "I will take your soul in sleep" from His saying: "And the one that did not die in her sleep." And I will raise you while you are asleep so that fear does not reach you, and you will awaken while you are in the heavens, safe and near, above those who disbelieved until the Day of Resurrection, overcoming them with argument and in most cases with the sword.

And his followers are the Muslims because they follow him in the essence of Islam even if the laws differ, unlike those who denied him and lied about him from the Jews and Christians.

So I will judge between you. The interpretation of the judgment is His saying: "So I will punish them..." (and We will give them their rewards). And it has been recited "He will give them their rewards" with the pronoun.
