Commentary
O Maryam, it is narrated that they consumed it as a miracle for Zakariya or as a precursor to the prophethood of 'Isa. He chose you first when He accepted you from your mother and raised you, and He distinguished you with the noble honor. He purified you from what is considered impure in actions and from what the Jews defamed you with. He chose you last over the women of the worlds by granting you 'Isa without a father, and this was not given to any woman. You were commanded to pray, mentioning the qunut and prostration, as they are among the forms and pillars of prayer. Then it was said to her, 'And bow with those who bow,' meaning: let your prayer be with the praying ones, that is, in congregation, or join yourself among the praying ones and be with them in their count and not with others. It is possible that in her time there were those who stood and prostrated in their prayer but did not bow, and among them were those who did bow. Thus, she was commanded to bow with those who bow and not to be with those who do not bow.
