Commentary
And the trial in souls: killing, captivity, wounds, and the various types of fears and calamities that befall them.
And in wealth: spending in the way of good and the afflictions that occur in it. And what they hear from the People of the Book, [the saying 'and what they hear from the People of the Book' remains what they hear from those who associate partners with Allah.] insults against the pure religion, and hindrance to those who wish to believe, and refutation of those who have believed, and what was from Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf in his slandering of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and incitement of the polytheists, and from Finhas, and from the Banu Qurayzah and the Nadir. Indeed, patience and piety are among the resolute matters, meaning that it is something that must be resolved upon, or what Allah has decreed to be. This means that it is a resolution from the resolutions of Allah; you must certainly be patient and be pious.
