And 'Aad is mentioned by implying 'We destroyed them,' because His saying, 'So the earthquake seized them,' indicates this. It is in the meaning of destruction. And it has become clear to you that this refers to what He described of their destruction from the direction of their dwelling when you look at it while passing by. The people of Mecca would pass by it during their travels and see it. They were insightful, rational, and capable of observation and reflection, but they did not act. Or they were aware that the punishment was descending upon them because Allah, the Exalted, had made it clear to them through the tongues of the messengers, peace be upon them. However, they persisted until they perished.
