In his adornment, Al-Hasan said: in the redness and yellowness. It was said: he rode on a gray mule adorned with [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN: arjwan]. And it had a saddle of gold, and with him were four thousand in his attire. It was said: they and their horses wore red silk. To his right were three hundred boys, and to his left were three hundred girls, adorned with jewelry and silk. It was said about ninety thousand who wore the dyed garments, and it was the first day the dyed garments were seen: those who wished for it were a group of Muslims, and they wished for it out of a desire for wealth and independence, as is the habit of humans. And from Qatadah: they wished for it to draw closer to Allah and to spend it in paths of goodness. It was said: they were a group of disbelievers. The envious is one who wishes for his companion's blessing without it being taken away from him. The jealous is one who wishes that his companion's blessing be for him alone. From the perspective of envy is Allah's saying: 'Oh, if only we had like what Qarun was given.' And from the perspective of jealousy is His saying: 'And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others.' It was said to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: does envy harm? He said: 'No, except as the thorns harm the trees.' The term 'hath' refers to fortune, and it is luck and state. They described him as a man of great fortune. It is said: so-and-so is one of good fortune, and fortunate, and what is this world except for fortunes and states.
