Commentary
Al-'uddu: the support of the hand, and by its strength it becomes strong. Tarfa said:
"O sons of Labin, you are not like a hand... except a hand that has no support. O sons of Labin, I do not have a right over you... as the deity is angry with you as I am angry."
This is attributed to Tarfa ibn al-Abd. It is said to be by Aws ibn Hajar. The hamzah is for calling. Labin is the name of a mother, a metaphor indicating that they are slaves. The hand is a literal metaphor for the strong. Or it is a profound comparison, meaning: you are not like a hand among hands in strength, except like a hand that has no support, which is difficult. It is narrated as except a hand that is weak in support. It is said: his hand was weakened, meaning it was rendered useless. In the rhyme, there is a cleverness, and it involves following the blame with what resembles praise for the sake of exaggeration in blame. The call is repeated for increased expression. And haqquhu means to right him: his opponent opposes him, and it also means to affirm and to obligate, meaning: I do not affirm you. Or you are not worthy of my dispute with you. And 'wajada 'alayh' means he became angry. And 'wajada bih' means he became sad, meaning: Allah's anger is upon you as I am angry. Or He dislikes you as the sad person dislikes what saddens him. This is a curse upon them for destruction.
It is said in a prayer for good: May Allah strengthen your support. And in its opposite: May Allah weaken your support. And the meaning of 'We will strengthen your support with your brother' is that we will empower you with him and assist you. This is either because the hand becomes strong by the strength of the support. The sentence becomes strong by the strength of the hand in carrying out matters. Or because a man is likened to a hand in its strength by the strength of the support, making it as if he is a hand strengthened by a strong support, having authority, dominance, and control. Or it is a clear proof by Our signs related to what was related in nine verses, meaning: go with Our signs. Or by making for you authority, meaning: we will empower you with Our signs. Or by not allowing them, meaning: you will be prevented from them by Our signs. Or it is a statement of the victorious ones with no connection, for it is impossible for the connection to precede the relative. If it were to be delayed, it would only be a connection for him. And it is permissible that it is an oath with its answer: 'They will not be allowed,' presented before it. Or it is from the idle of the oath.
