Commentary

It is narrated that she was commanded when she went out to Solomon, peace be upon him, so her throne was placed in the last seven rooms, one within the other, in the last palace of her seven palaces. And she closed the doors and appointed a guard to protect it. Perhaps it was revealed to Solomon, peace be upon him, to ensure her throne, so he wanted to bring it to her and show her thereby some of what Allah has granted him of performing miracles by his hand, while making her aware of the great power of Allah and of what attests to the prophethood of Solomon, peace be upon him, and affirms it. And according to Qatadah: He wanted to take it before she submitted, knowing that if she submitted, it would not be permissible for him to take her wealth. It was also said that he wanted it to be brought to him so that it would be denied and altered, then he would see whether she would affirm it or deny it, as a test of her intellect.
