Commentary
The 'and' in His saying 'Or even if I brought you' is the conjunction of the state that has been entered upon by the interrogative hamzah. Its meaning is: Will you do this to me even if I come to you with something clear, meaning: coming with the miracle. And in His saying 'If you are among the truthful' it indicates that a miracle is only brought by one who is truthful in his claim, because the miracle is a confirmation from Allah for the one claiming prophethood, and the Wise does not confirm the liar. It is astonishing that someone like Pharaoh was not unaware of this, while it was hidden from some people of the Qiblah, meaning the people of the Sunnah, as they said: that both good and evil are by the decree and predestination of Allah, and they did not impose upon themselves falsehood as clarified in the science of monotheism. And it is said that they permitted evil upon Allah, to the extent that it necessitated them to confirm the liars with miracles. And its estimation is: If you are among the truthful in your claim, you would have brought it, so the condition was omitted, because the command to bring it indicates it.
