And indeed, this revelation means what has been revealed from these stories and verses. The intended meaning of revelation is: the revealed. The 'by' in 'the spirit descended by it' and 'the spirit descended with it' is for the purpose of transference, according to both readings. The meaning of 'the spirit descended by it' is that Allah made the spirit descend upon your heart, meaning: He preserved you and made you understand it, and affirmed it in your heart as an affirmation that is not forgotten, as His saying: 'We will make you recite, so you will not forget' in a clear Arabic tongue. It may relate to the warners, meaning: so that you may be among those who were warned by this tongue, and they are five: Hud, Salih, Shu'ayb, Isma'il, and Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him. Or it may relate to 'descended', meaning: He descended it in the Arabic tongue. Know that the initial verses are like the introductions to these verses, for Allah has made clear that He revealed it in their language, which they do not know other than it, and in a clear Arabic tongue. If they found something difficult to understand, the clarification would be readily available to them. What was revealed in a non-Arabic tongue might lead them to excuse themselves by saying that it does not convey what is unclear to their understanding of its meanings. He has removed their excuses and refuted their arguments, and He has placed it in their hearts and enabled them to understand it with the utmost ability. However, He did not grant them success, but decreed upon them that they do not believe.
