Commentary
If you say: Did the meaning differ by inserting the conjunction 'wa' here and omitting it in the story of Thamud? I say: If you insert 'wa', then two meanings are intended: both of which contradict the message for them: enchantment and humanity, and that the messenger cannot be an enchanter nor can he be human. If you omit 'wa', then only one meaning is intended, which is being an enchanter, and then it is established by being human like them. If you say: How did the light form of the heavy and its lam differentiate on the action of supposition and its two objects? I say: Their original form is that they differentiate on the subject and the predicate, like saying: 'Indeed, Zaid is certainly departing.' So when the two doors—meaning the door of 'was' and the door of 'I thought'—are of the same kind as the door of the subject and the predicate, this was done in both doors, so it was said: 'If Zaid is departing,' and 'If I thought he was departing.'
